Just received this radio yesterday and I really dig it. I got my tech license just under 2 weeks ago and had a pair of Baofeng UV-5Rs that I was listening on for the past month and then tried to make my first contact with them a few days ago without success.
My first attempt at making contact with the KG-UV9D was an immediate success. I informed my contact that he was the first person I reached so for and he said the radio sounded great and asked if I was using a base station and external antenna and I infomred him that I was sitting in my bedroom with an HT using a Diamond SRH77 antenna.
I have not played with it that much yet but judging by the manual there seems to be tons of features.

Nice radio with limitations By Guest
This is a very solid radio that was easy to program with the purchased software. It is NOT suitable for outdoor use during the day. Sunlight renders the screen unusable. The radio suffers from parasitic battery drain. It should be kept in the charger when not in uses. The screen is larger but is made of plastics and scratches very easily..

A continued refinement By James
I love these Wouxun radios in that I trust them to be durable and work well when I need them, for a low price. This is my third Wouxun model and it finally seems like a refined mature product with a complete feature set. Battery life is good, much better than the KG-UV8, with >24 hours in standby with light receiver activity.
My wish list for future Wouxuns: Part 90 certification for the newer, more refined models than the KG-UV6X and a water-proof speaker mike that allows me to switch active bands.

Excellent sound quality. By David
This radio has great sound quality and a lot of features for the price. I give it four stars for simple fact that how to programming freq's, etc is not clear at all in the minimal manual provided. Looking on I-Net for more info has not been good. A much better, clearer 'How To' manual is needed. Sellers should create their own version for download that American operators can understand.

Great Value, Excellent Performance By Guest
As other reviewers noted, excellent audio quality, and easy to operate. What surprised me was the performance of the receiver and transmitter as measured on my IFR Service Monitor. Receiver squelch opens at 0.05 microvolts, transmitter output is 5.5 watts on VHF. Transmit frequency accuracy typically within 100 Hz! Wouxun programming software not intuitive, but gets the job done, and works with my old Kenwood serial programming cable. I purchased a second battery for those longer SAR missions.

Great Radio, Excellent Sound Quality By Mike
I was a little uncertain about purchasing this radio, but I really like it. My hearing is not so great and the sound quality is very good with this radio. The display is really nice and reception and signal strength tested very well. I like the dual frequency monitoring capability, plus the look and feel of the radio. The only CON that I see so far is the SP/MIC cover on the right side doesn't seem to fit very well and pops out once in a while. other than that, I would recommend this radio.

Great radio. ==> I have tip for Mac users. By Guest
I think this is the best deal in analog ht's. Its only drawback is that it is difficult to program via the keypad without a cheat-sheet.
TIP: I would like everyone to know that you can use the (Windows only) programming software from a Mac (El Capitan) running Windows 10 in a VMWare virtual machine. Once I got Windows 10 running in a VM on my MacBook Pro, I installed the USB driver, then the programming software (download the latest version of each, don't use the CDs) and it just worked. But, you must plug the data cable into the radio, turn the radio on, then plug the cable into the Mac, then start the transfer to the radio right away. If you leave the cable plugged into the Mac for more than a minute or so, it won't work. The solution -- unplug and re-plug the USB cable back into the Mac.
