The Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 12/48-8A (380W) Isolated DC-DC Charger is a professional DC to DC adaptive 3-stage charger with built-in Bluetooth. For use in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats where the (smart) alternator and the start battery are used to charge the service battery. The name "Smart" comes from its built-in Bluetooth connection, where the charger can be monitored and configured via Bluetooth and can be remotely controlled via a remote on/off switch and has an engine running detection mechanism.

This isolated model allows the input and output to have separate chassis grounds. It offers a wide input and output voltage range, making it especially useful in vehicles with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternator (which often supplies too low charging voltage) or in boats and RVs with long cable runs that cause voltage drops.

The Orion-Tr Smart can also be used as a power supply (constant voltage source). It features an adaptive 3-stage charge algorithm (bulk – absorption – float) that is fully programmable for optimal charging of lead-acid batteries (with automatic adjustment of absorption time based on discharge depth) or lithium batteries (fixed absorption time). It includes smart alternator compatibility with built-in engine running detection to prevent unwanted discharge of the starter battery.
