A Fantastic Deal! By K6JEB@arrl.net
I've been building-out my ham station for portable, as well as emergency use. I needed some portable batteries that would be sturdy for rugged and varied terrain, as well as the unknowns that come with emergencies.
Obviously the Absorbed Glass Matt (AGM) batteries are the way to go since you needn't worry about spillage or explosions if you drop one.
Looking around, you won't find a much better deal price-wise for these batteries. And if you've done the research, you'll know these batteries are the bees' knees.
I ordered the 7.5 aH 12V batteries, two of them, and they were delivered FAST. I opened the box and the batteries were well-packed. I checked their charge and they were near-full. So I topped-it off with a float charger and the next day, put them into service powering my Packet/Pactor station as well as my QRP rigs and devices. I suggest using a quality charger. Ideally, a solar panel would keep it topped-off. A Whattmeter comes in handy to check the output.
At this point, I want to find or make a suitable case or padded carry bag for them so I can haul everything around in a compact way, ready for deployment, or lunch-hour contacts from out on the glade.
